HIV/AIDS

UNDP works to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and reduce its impact. As a trusted development partner, and co-sponsor of UNAIDS, it helps countries put HIV/AIDS at the centre of national development and poverty reduction strategies; build national capacity to mobilize all levels of government and civil society for a coordinated and effective response to the epidemic; and protect the rights of people living with AIDS, women, and vulnerable populations. Because HIV/AIDS is a world-wide problem, UNDP supports these national efforts by offering knowledge, resources and best practices from around the world.

UNDP Kuwait and hiv/aids

UNDP Kuwait continues to build bridges with the national HIV/AIDS programme in the State of Kuwait as  interest is being increasing shown by the public in this area. Substantive cooperation in this regard is ongoing with the HIV/AIDS Regional Programme in the Arab States (HARPAS), especially in the role which  religious leaders and people living with HIV may be able to play.  In cognizance of the legitimacy and durable presence that religious leaders hold in the society, UNDP Kuwait has worked to garner the support of religious leaders of all sects to help influence public attitudes and national policies related to HIV/AIDs.

UNDP Kuwait also supports  activists especially those who are living with HIV to be increasingly involved in regional forums on the issue of HIV/AIDS. Furthermore, female religious leaders have participated in regional conferences on this issue.
